To Pick Up a Ballot for a Voter Other Than Yourself:

A designee may pick up a ballot from the Elections Office for a voter no earlier than 4 days prior to the election (Friday before the election). The designee must have a note signed by the voter and a picture ID (of the designee). The designee will be asked to complete an affidavit at the Elections Office. The designee may not pick up more than 2 absentee ballots per election other than the designee's own ballot and for members of his/her immediate family. Anyone may return the ballot or it may be mailed back.

To Pick Up a Ballot for Yourself:

A voter may pick up a ballot for him/her self at any time and must bring a picture and signature ID. The voter may mail the ballot back or return it in person or have a designee return the ballot.

To Vote in Person at the Elections Office:

A voter may vote in person at the Elections Office and deposit the ballot in the Eagle Optical Scanner. The voter must have a picture and Signature ID and sign an "In Office Voting Certificate" when he/she votes.

How to Mark Your Ballot and Be Sure It Will Be Counted:

  1. We use an Optical Scan voting system in Washington County called an Eagle Optical Scanner. You vote by completing the broken arrow to the left of the candidate or answer of your choice. You may use a ballot marking pen or pencil to complete the arrow. Do not put an X or a checkmark. The Eagle may not pick it up. Just complete  the broken arrow.
  2. Return the ballot to the Supervisor of Elections by 7 PM on Election day.
  3. Sign the Voter's Certificate on the back of the envelope. Your ballot can not be counted unless you sign it. This signature will be verified against your voter registration form. Make sure your signature is up to date.
  4. Ballots may be mailed or returned in person, or returned by someone else.

Military, Overseas, Needs Assistance, Permanent Absentee:

If you are listed on our rolls as military, overseas, needs assistance, or permanent absentee, we will send you a letter 90 days before the first election of the year asking if you want to vote absentee. You must sign and return the letter if you want to "automatically" receive absentee ballots for the year. If you do not return the letter, you will  have to make a request for an absentee ballot if you later decide you want to vote absentee.
